Description
Sunset over the Charlestown Navy Yard.
The USS Constitution, the worlds oldest commissioned naval vessel, berthed alongside the Charles W Morgan, the last surviving sail powered whaling boat from the 19th American whaling fleet, which is normally berthed at Mystic Seaport in Mystic Connecticut but in 2014 the ship completed its 38th Voyage while stopping for a port visit in Boston Massachusetts from July 18-22, 2014
Visible to the right of the ships is the Bunker Hill Memorial which commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill, the first major conflict between British and Patriot forces in the American Revolutionary War, fought there June 17, 1775. The 221-foot granite obelisk was erected between 1827 and 1843 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, with granite from nearby Quincy conveyed to the site via the purpose-built Granite Railway, followed by a trip by barge.
